AHCIA Continues to Gain Bipartisan Cosponsors; Republican Outreach Needed

We are very pleased to report that the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act (AHCIA) (H.R. 3238 and S. 1557) continues to attract very strong bipartisan support in the House and Senate. As of Friday, July 14th, H.R. 3238 has 135 bipartisan cosponsors and S. 1557 has achieved 26 bipartisan cosponsors.

The level of support the AHCIA has garnered since its introduction on May 11th is amazing, but we, and Representative Darin LaHood (R-IL), our lead sponsor in the House, would like to reach 150 bipartisan cosponsors by the time Congress leaves Washington for the August recess. Thus, we need all hands on deck to reach out to Republican Senators and House Members that have yet to join the growing list of cosponsors of the AHCIA. The updated target list at the link below should help you find the Members of Congress in your state with the appropriate staffer to reach out to. Please ask their office for support and ask the Member to cosponsor the bill. Please include the relevant state and district fact sheets as well as the section-by-section description of the AHCIA which you may include when you email the staff.

We also ask that you consider inviting these Members and their local staffs to LIHTC properties in their districts during the August recess. There is nothing more convincing to a Member of Congress than seeing an affordable housing development. It is the best way for them to see and understand the benefits you bring to their districts and constituents.

Thank you for your assistance. Advocacy from throughout the industry, and especially their states and districts, are what will get the AHCIA across the finish line.
